Brief introduction to Chongming Modern Agricultural Garden

　　
Chongming Modern Agricultural Garden is the municipal modern Agricultural Garden approved on August 28, 2000 by the People’s Government of Shanghai Municipality for establishment. It is located in the northeast of Chongming Island. It is 15km from east to west and 2.2km from south to north, covering a total area of 33km². As a new land formed by tidal-flat area resources, it is open as a large patch and is easy to conduct configuration development and functional development. Supporting facilities in the Park is complete. Environment is clean and land is fertile. Water, air and soil have attained the national Grade I standard. Thus the Park boasts the optimal ecological environment for production of green food and organic food. 

Development of Chongming Modern Agricultural Garden has been conducted as per the mode of “regionalized layout, professional production and integrated operation”. Based on domestic and international markets, aimed at high technology, high starting point and high efficiency, with support of bio-technology, engineering technology, botany, zoology and ecology, it is devoted in functional construction of seed source and seedling multiplication and cultivation, ecological and life island engineering, export and foreign exchange earning by export and metropolitan sightseeing agriculture. The Park will also establish hi-tech agricultural exemplary base and bio-tech research and development base, so as to fully exert the conglomerated advantage of agriculture, science, teaching, production and research and gradually develop into a metropolitan ecological modern Agricultural Garden integrating the functions of scientific research, production, processing, sale, sightseeing, recreation and tourism.
